Did you meet unfair players ? I did 2 times in a row, and it drove me nuts

I just don't understand this post in general. Why now? Why post this type of post after more than 4 years and 2,000 games on BGA? It reads like a new person posted, someone who just has not been here long.

But this cannot possibly be a new issue. Why bother with this after so long being here and so many games? You know what you are getting into with each game since years ago. No point to this complaint but to stir up the pot

At this point, I am pretty convinced that we are interacting with an internet troll seeking attention. There is no other way to make sense of his replies to the arguments made in this thread.

He just wanted to vent out some steam with an argument.

When I was slow and be booted, i will still say sorry for being slow to the player who booted me.

When you play 9sec per move and you used up your time bank of 90 sec, you have already used 10x the average move time extra.

The time settings already give you this extra time. But apparently some people need extra extra time. (I sometimes do too, but then I know it's my bad and if I get booted it's my fault)

I don't think they are a troll, more someone who thinks their way of seeing the world is the only right one. This is not the first time a thread like this has been posted by the user, they have received similar feedback from the community in the past, and yet, they re-emerge to tell everyone that certain settings are needed to improve the gaming experience for everyone (when generally, they probably wouldn't even improve the gaming experience for their specific complaints).

Probably I shouldn't respond. But sometimes I wonder if I might get through to people like this one day (and typically, silence doesn't make them go away anyway).

Exactly. I generally don't boot people immediately, but I understand that if I run over time, people have to right to boot me, whether at 20 seconds or days (though, I've never been over time by days, but I have booted people who have been). I do sometimes think less of someone who boots at their first opportunity, or does so in a tournament (which is usually the only place I run over time anyway), but I red thumb and move on.

Pressing the nuclear button is already a notice, it gives 20 seconds to react (in real-time). I sometimes wait 10-20 second, press the button, wait the compulsory 20 seconds, then wait some 10-20 seconds more.

What you are saying makes sense, and I would play similarly, such a situation would occur. My opponent in the game that triggered the discussion was light-years away from it

Just consider nevertheless that in a very tight game, moreover when it is the last move and it may decide the winner, you may be concentrated on your game, not noticing the red light flashing meanwhile. That was probably what happened to me.

Weren't you the one saying you don't want to play on "friendly mode" because you want to make sure your opponents are playing at a decent pace? I don't believe for a second that if another player was not taking their turn you would wait an hour before ejecting them.

If you want that much lenience the play "Fast Turn-based (24 moves a day)".

What you quote is a figure of style meaning time is not the main issue. The big issue is one's behavior with opponents as well as with partners

So you lost because you played badly?

To be clear 'clocking' your opponent is a perfectly fair way to win in a competitive 2 player game. People who have actually played competitive games will know, and people not tying themselves in knots to defend an absurd position, will understand, that if your opponent is struggling on time it is both a legitimate strategy and good play to complicate a position to increase their chance of running out of time.

While you may believe that you specifically should not have to play well to win games you are unlikely to find much support for that position.
