Critique the art and the artist all you like. I have, at no point, defended the art itself. I am only talking about the unsubstantiated accusations of AI, which keep coming up. I do think this thread specifically about games with AI has gotten wildly off topic and focused entirely on one game and one artist.

Agreed; the thread has certainly gone off topic.

But, threads evolve, right? The near-consensus seems to be that people dislike AI art in board games, so I'm not sure how much else there is to say on the subject.

With regard to this specific game, for me personally, it doesn't matter whether the art is AI-generated, because I dislike the card artwork regardless. If a game had AI-generated art and it is good, and I like the game, I wouldn't have a big moral issue enjoying the game.

So, I am much less passionate about AI art issues than most others. I don't really give it much thought. I either like a game's artwork or I do not. For this food-related game discussed in this thread, I would probably be interested in the game if the cards simply had photographs of food on the cards. The one photograph of roasted peppers looked great. It made me want to go to the kitchen and roast some peppers to eat. That would make me interested in the actual game.

One that fooled me completely, I instantly saw 6 fingers when I looked at the card. Again though, I was perhaps influenced by someone saying, "She has six fingers."

I STILL see the illusory 6th finger every time I look at it.
But that's not an optical illusion. An optical illusion is when a picture can be interpreted in two ways that both make sense. In this case, the interpretation that she has six fingers is the only one that makes sense. If what looks like a finger is not a finger, then what is it supposed to represent?

The apparently illusory 6th finger seems to have been intended to be the light reflecting on the left and top part of the palm.

This is one reason I said I dislike the specific art in this game. If that illusion was not intentional, then that specific use of lighting and shading was not done well. And I just think the roasted peppers and the chicken and wine look weird.

It's more than not done well, it's coincidentally taking the exact shape, contours and color that a finger would have if someone decided to draw one in that particular spot.

If you have to imagine something as unlikely as a poorly done shading just happened to look exactly like a finger, the more likely explanation is that it was deliberately intended to be a finger. Either by a human who wanted to do something funny, or by an AI who didn't understand its mistake.

Does anyone want to markup where you're even seeing this sixth finger? Because I cannot for the life of me even find what you're talking about. There are only five fingers, no matter how I look at it

Look at the lighter beige of the left and top of the palm. It forms the shape of a thumb, perpendicular to the other fingers and parallel to the actual thumb. (I already explained this explicitly and verbatim in an earlier post).

Not often, but it happens: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0191898/

(spoiler: it is part of the plot)

Okay, so we are genuinely talking about the muscle on the outside of the hand and the pad area beneath each finger as though it is an extra finger drawn into the hand, with a bend? Am I understanding that correctly?

I tried to draw the edge of what would be the nail if it were a 6th finger (or thumb): https://imgur.com/a/IIHrWwL
