Re: Google Chrome, Firefox & Opera Extension

Post by Tof63 »

In some games, the extension darkens the background by applying a filter. This feature was broken by the site’s latest update, so I released a new version, 1.14.8, this morning to fix it.
Please let me know if you notice any other issues!

Also, some games (like Harmonies) are starting to use the extension’s code to natively support dark mode. I have to admit, that makes me a little proud :)

There was a closed beta about three weeks ago where I'm assuming a lot of feedback was received. It definitely was not ready for primetime then.
Sure, but if I see a problem with dark mode, do I raise it under the game I see it in like any other bug? What happens if the game has no dev? I'm guessing nothing happens, and that bug with the dark mode won't be fixed.

This is a good question. Two of the games I specifically called out in the closed beta still have the same readability issues I reported.

From what I understand, if a game doesn't display properly in dark mode, you have to report a bug to the game itself.
Even if no developer is maintaining the game anymore, I've given BGA permission to use the extension's code to handle dark mode, so they'll be able to fix it with minimal effort... but even so, it’s a lot of work, so it won’t happen overnight.
But if you’re discussing this here, it means you’re at least aware that there’s an extension that can help you out in the meantime ;)

This kinda sounds contradictory to me, but I think you mean that it's straightforward but tedious?

Let's give more time for devs/maintainers to adapt to the dark mode natively. If games are really broken in native dark mode and are unmaintained, I could try to fix them if someone is kind enough to give me a list of those unplayable games. But it's not related to the extension, this remark would belong to the Dark mode thread, as the extension doesn't have this problem.

Yep ... lets say it would take 10 minutes per games to copy and adapt the css from the extension, and the extension has a CSS file for dark mode for 1166 games : That's 24 days of work, working 8 hours a day.
(For me, to create these css files, it was 3 to 4 hours of work a week for the last 3 years :D)

Even though I am busy these days and I can't click every day those chests (I already forgot it twice heh) I would still like ot see it on the homepage, while using the extension, can someone help me toggle the right setting please. I tried a few but the chests would not appear, unless I totally deactivate the extension. Is it even possible? I saw somewhere that you can edit the css itself, is it our only hope?

You can enable "Recommended games (and event calendar)" in the extension.

Yes! Exactly, thanks :)
And I recommend you try the advanced mode at least once, along with my favorite configuration, which you can copy and paste from the documentation (https://en.doc.boardgamearena.com/Chrom ... e_settings)
I’ve never received any feedback on this—as far as I know, I created this mode just for myself :D
