"Too much time" incorrect?

Post by venedan »

Hello,

I apologize if this is not the correct place to put this, but I searched the wiki and the page and couldn't find any place to put this request. It's not a "bug", per se.

I was unable to join a game today because I had taken "too much time" "too many times". Which confused me, so I looked at my profile and I have a "too much time" taken in game 21791917 within the past few games. I read over the log and unless I missed something never took even two minutes for a turn, so I am not sure how I was marked as a bad player for taking "too much time".

Is there an official way to have someone review this? Because I don't play a ton of games all the time on here, this one incorrect blemish is preventing me from playing in any games with anyone that has a "<10% out of time" restriction.

Again, I apologize if this is not the correct place to put this, but if someone can advise me who to reach out to, I'd appreciate it. I'd also suggest putting that information somewhere in the wiki, as I am sure I am not the only person that has a question about their profile's evaluations.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I guess it doesn't matter now, in my desperation to try to play something to increase my number of games played without running out of time, I joined a game, kept getting "server errors" when trying to end my turn, and now have two out of times, in my last 8 games.

When does that counter reset? I do enjoy playing here, and would like to know when I'm allowed to return.

Hello,

These penalties (the "too much time" clock, and the "left a game" door) last 2 months.

You can find more information about Game Clocks and time in games on the following page : http://en.boardgamearena.com/#!doc/Game_clock

On game 21791917, I can see in the statistics that you spent 40min "thinking", while your opponent only 8min. Also, the game was set on "fast speed", which lets you less time per turn.

To get less than 10%, just play more games without running out of time, and this should do ;)

Also, try to create your own tables and set the speed to "normal" or even "slow", that way you are less likely to run out of time.
And remember to check the clock next to your name during a game. If it gets into negatives, you get a penalty.

Hope this helps you understand what it's all about.

Cheers.

Ok, so just so I am clear, it's an aggregate not a turn by turn time?

Because the first game that I had it "awarded" to me, I never went into the negatives on a single turn. But because I spent more time in total than my opponent, I get the penalty?

I did go into negatives the second time because the game wouldn't accept my move and wouldn't allow me to pass, until I finally figured out why it wouldn't at about the -8 second mark.

Just frustrating that I am effectively banned from the site for two months over this.

It's not a "total time for the game" per say.
Each player starts with some given amount of time. Whenever a player can play, that player's time counter decreases until the player finishes its play.
Every now and then (during some specific phases, that depends on the game, so not necessarily each "turn"), players are granted additional thinking time.
There is an upper limit to this clock, so even if you're reaaally fast during you first N turns, you won't have tons of time for the remaining turns.

Moreover, you are not "effectively banned". Most table creators do not care about those penalties, and you can always create your own table without penalty restriction.
Those penalties actually have little to no impact at all.
