Improve our English-a-thon !

Post by sourisdudesert »

You probably know that we -the BGA team- are French. Nobody is perfect ;)

As English is not our mother tongue, the English version of this website is
not as good as it could be.

This is why we just opened the BGA translation system to English. Now
you are able to "translate" from (our) English to (correct) English.

3 more things:
_ you shouldn't contribute if your mother tongue is not English (please check the translation guidelines).
_ for games translation, you shouldn't contribute if you don't know
the game and its specific terminology.
_ otherwise.... You SHOULD contribute! For each 100 strings validated
you will become a member of the BGA club for 1 month.

Note: a string is "validated" if it is not modified for 30 days straight.
Afterwards it can't be modified anymore.

Thanks in advance to everyone that will help us make this website better
and better!

Hi, when do the changes actually push out to the website? I see most of the typos in RftG have been fixed in the translation page (I found one more), but the games I play still have the original translations w/errors. I think it will be easier to confirm that all of the messages are really correct once they actually appear in gameplay. Thanks! - Will

Hello,

Thank you for your contributions !
This is absolutely true. The new translations appear when a new version of the website is released. This is the reason it can take few days before translations are visible on the games.

We're going to add some information to make this more clear.

The German version includes some bad translations which are older than 30 days and can't be modified.
I think the German community is to small to validate all translations in 30 days. So I am
not sure if the "freezing" is a good solution in general.

Hello pablo,

This is indeed an issue.

What if we give a special "official translator" status to some players in order they can still modify strings after they have been validated? For example: all players that have at least 100 strings validated in German could have the right to modify translations?

Hello sourisdudesert,

yes, the "official translator" sounds good.

Maybe all other people can also mark some bad "gold translations" and the "official translators"
get informed about such string (e.g. by using a "marked as bad" button which can be similar to the "not translated strings" button). But this is only a nice-to-have feature and should not get a to high priority on your implementation task list.

Thank you again for very good work and well scaling implementation!

Best regards,
