Carcassone - some ideas

Post by Hendal »

Hey All,

I have played at least 50 games so far and here is what I think,

1.) The fields need to be lit up so you see where the fields is. Go over to Asobrains if you need to see how this would work. For me personally I do not need this, but it is very helpful, and would make it easier. I think a lot of people don't see the board as a whole so it will really help them.

2.) Faster scoring after the game - it takes a long time, maybe this is just me, but it is long compared to say Stone Age.

3.) Faster scoring during the game. Again this is really slow, when you finish s few things with one tile it is really slow.

4.) Nit picking here, but being able to turn the board 90% maybe a really cool idea, a lot of time the board gets really long one way, so turning it would help.

5.) A way to tell where the meeple on the board is placed. With the building piece that has 3 open side buildings and the 4th side is a wall with a road out of it - that road is a stump and very hard to tell if the meeple is on a road ( that you can not see ) or in the field. Something where if you mouse over it, it says what it is ( a thief, a farmer, etc. ).

6.) An option for a faster turned game. having a fast option where you obly have a minute per turn, or a minute and a half would be awesome.

That is all I can think of for now, please share if you have other ideas. I just think if you want to make it a big hit and add expansions if it does well, then you need to make it as nice and user friendly as possible.

Thanks Hendal

While the scoring after the game is extremely slow, you can skip it clicking on BGA emblema and quiting into finished game menu. Agree on other points. In carcassone on fast settings you need about 15 seconds additional time per turn with starting time about 3 minutes. As you can always think during other players turns.

Somehow that feels like cheating to me. It is, after all, a visual game and I think being able to follow those farms is part of the game. And if someone insists on playing on a tiny screen, I figure that's their own problem. (The site isn't really making games for phones.)
5.) A way to tell where the meeple on the board is placed. That's a good idea. I keep clicking on these meeples expecting it to say something. I also don't think in this version that the visual difference between standing up and lying down is great enough. The standing ones already look a bit like they are lying down, so I have to find a lying one to distinguish them.

The one thing I'd like to see is being able to turn the tiles without having to put it on the board first. I should be able to turn it every direction, and then have it set in the direction I want it when I place it. f2f I can turn those pieces all I want without placing them and then turning. I'm actually surprised it was made like it is.

Good but only if you could turn the tiles during opponents turns. If you turn them on your own turn, it makes no difference.

Maybe someone will add tiles with a new version or versions of winter?

?? I'm not understanding why doing it on opponent turns or you own turn makes a difference. It's just a visual to help with seeing where it can be placed. That won't change based on whose turn it is. If I were playing live, I'd start looking around on my opponent's turns (assuming my tile is already showing), but I play mostly turn-based and can only really do it on my own turn.

because it saves time and makes the game faster. When it's your turn it takes the same time to place tile then rotate it and to rotate tile then place it.

You know what else would be a good idea? Better than all of OP's? Some expansions! :D
