Hi everyone.
If I'm posting this in the wrong section, please tell me and I'll correct it. I'm not used to use forums.
Today, I played a game of Through the Ages.
I have some serious problem understanding how strength calculation is being made. In my opinion, it is a bug but since I'm not experienced in this game and I only played it once in real life, I prefer to check with the community in case I'm doing something wrong.
I wanted to attached the screen shots to explain but it's too big so I'll just write it down.
This is what one of my opponent had:
-Swordsmen 4
-Knights 4
-Military theory
-Air force 1
-Classic army
So, from my calculations, it should be 4*2 + 4*2 + 5 + 5 + 5*2.
Classic army gives only 5 since he doesn't have the Age 2 requirements for his units so I'm guessing that Air force should also give 5 for it's bonus.
That's 36. However, he had freaking 53! There is a 17 strength difference!
I tried to talk to them in chat so they could explain it to me but they couldn't be bothered with it as no one answered my questions about the calculation (and I wasn't being a dickhead while asking).
I can't understand this game and it's really frustrating to get wreck later due to a war while I could have defend myself with my calculation.
An other opponent had:
-Swordsmen 2
-Knights 2
-Cannon 2
-Cartography
-Strategy
-Napoleonic army
-Strategic territory
So, again, from my calculations, it should be 2*2 + 2*2 + 2*3 + 1 + 3 + 4 + 2.
That's 24. However, he had 36!
I had:
-Riflemen 3
-Knights 2
-Cannon 3
-Warfare
-Phalanx
So, from my calculations, it should be 3*3 + 2*2 + 3*3 + 1 + 3.
That's 26 and that's what I had in game.
So, that makes me think that my understanding on how strength is calculated is not 100% wrong but I'm missing something which frustrates me.
If someone really kind could help me to understand it, I would be really really grateful.
By the way, the subject of this topic is not about me being salty about losing in strength even with my calculation as I could have upgraded them if needed. However, nobody cared to explain to me even if we had an expert player with us so I chose to concede to search for the truth instead of using 20min getting wrecked due to my lack of understanding.
Thank you in advance.
