About game name policy

Post by e1q3z9c7 »

At before when I look up a game name translation string there's a paragraph of red fonts says :

Game name: please use the ORIGINAL game name, unless the game is actually published in your language with another name.

but in new game "Bubblee Pop" there's none. Wondering did you change the policy or simply a miss?

The same question about Incan Gold. In the announcement it's called "Inca Goud" (= Incan Gold) in Dutch. If you search the game with that name you'll find nothing. In the list with games it's called "Diamant". "Inca Goud" is more to the point since it's about an Incan Temple. If you look for the game at the internet, you'll find almost nothing in Dutch. What I found wat "het goud van de Inca's" (the gold of the Inca's). Inca Gold is short for the same.

I thing Inca Goud would be the best name or even Incan Gold, since (almost) every Dutch person will understand what that means.

On the translation-page I kept the original name "Incan Gold" because of warning in red:
"Game name: please use the ORIGINAL game name, unless the game is actually published in your language with another name."

So far as I know the game is never published in Dutch,
Diamant(also not published in Dutch imo) was an older version of this game without the artifacts and some more differences:
Diamant: exploring in a cave/mine vs Incan Gold: a temple.
D: players have treasure chests vs IG: tents at their camp.
D: players are searching for diamonds vs IG: for jewels and other gems.
D: players have a wooden meeple to decide if they stay or run back vs IG: has stay/go-cards.
D: has a gameboard vs IG: 5 round/temple cards.

So imo it should be "Incan Gold".

The announcement is machine translated (and can afterwards be improved upon by translators).
Of course, machine translation will translate everything :)

But if the game is not published in your language, the best is to keep the original name in the game translation, and to fix "Inca Goud" to "Incan Gold" in the announcement translation for coherence.
