Elo Inflation

Post by RobertBr »

I keep notes on games played between stronger players when I am learning a game. As a result I've noticed a distinct inflation in Elo - where games with 300+ Elos were relatively rare, they are now very common. This is not a surprise, it was expected with the changes in how Elo ratings are calculated. However I wonder if anyone knows how significant the effect is?

In fact this was anticipated. This is why we changed the ELO "K factor" at the exact same time then we introduced the "minimum ELO" : having a "minimum ELO" produced an ELO inflation, and the change of the "K factor" produced an ELO deflation. At the end, it does not change the situation that much :)
