About our moderation policy

Post by sourisdudesert »

Dear players,

Recently, we saw an (slightly) increase of players angry after being moderate on BGA.

In one case, the player harassed us by emails with insults and threats. In another case, a Premium player argued that as a paying user he should not be moderated and threaten us (lawsuits).

With the following post we'd like to make clear that:

1. We care about the possibility to chat during a game. More and more online games (ex: Heartstone) do not allow players to chat between themselves to avoid moderation issue. We definitely disagree with this and want to provide a way to chat on BGA, despite the issues.

2. Almost 100% of moderators decisions are very good. We consider that this is very important that moderators are players from the community and not administrators, so you can be moderated by "regular" players who are just like you. There may be a risk that some decisions are wrong, but what we can see is that moderators do a very good job and there are very few cases where we (admins) must interfere.

3. The moderation policy of BGA is very, very strict. Yes it is. It is strict because the alternative is the disappearance of the chat. It is also strict because we want to spend the minimum amount of time to manage this. If you want to use bad words / foul language, please use another tool than BGA.

4. Premium users should respect the rules like others users. We are very grateful that you help to make this service exists BUT we cannot allow you to use this position to disrespect the other users.

Thanks for your understanding.

Out of curiosity, how do players from the community get selected to be moderators?

We select them mostly based on their good reputation and loyalty.

I think it will be good to have more guidelines to moderators and make the guideline available to all players to help them understand.
Last time a player said he worked in IT company and would send virus through the BGA website to my computer (lawsuits). Then the moderators said the player was just kidding because I provoked him. But when they handle insults they say 'even if a player is provoked, he cannot behave bad.

And may I ask if moderators are paid?'

Also now there is no Asian moderators or Russian moderators. Some people do not speak good English and French as their mother tongue and they may feel difficult to make a report.

Also for king making standards? For players who have different IP but play together in most of the games, result in a player winning most number of games (2players or 3+) and getting a high rank. Is this encouraged?

And is cheating behavior happened a year ago will not be handled no matter how obvious it is? Or games will be handled as long as the replays are available?

There are guidelines:

Yes, that's exactly our policy, you cannot use insults. If these are just stupid jokes/provocation, you must use red thumbs.

No, but they are made Premium.

Moderators come from all countries, so depending on the period they can be moderators from Asia or not.

Of course not. In this case the additional accounts are banned and ELO is reset to 100. We communicated several times in the past about that.

I already answered you privately to this. As long as there are technical proofs we can moderate. But we don't keep all technical datas forever for obvious privacy reasons so the sooner the better.

Oh there is a public guideline,,well said then

But I will regard the player who wanted to hack my computer as threats(lawsuits) as you use in the first post

I also suggest players are able to give red thumbs to others who send private message to them

How do you know if there are or are not any Asian/Russian mods? Is a list of moderators available somewhere?

I took a look at this. It seems to me that it does not really reflect the new reputation system, for example, as far as I know, the term 'devilkin' does not really appear on the site anywhere. Other than that it seems very thorough and fair.

Also it might be good if a link to either this or a general behavior guidelines document be made available somewhere prominent, like the bga front page.

Thanks for all the great work. This is a great site! :)
