Shelf(Box) and filters - organizing the (PLAY NOW) section

Post by Joseph777 »

---------------------------------------------------------------IDEA 1!! Boxes or shelves------------------------------------------------------

When I was young I used to keep my toys in 2 big boxes, while I was thinking of this memory today , I remembered this site.
There's a plenty of games here -because of our great people who work on this site (thank you alot) - but I notice lately after adding games to (want to play now) the menu became messy and uncomfortable to my eyes.
Where do you keep your board games at home?
who don't have a box or a shelf to keep this games?
So I though we need something shelves or boxes to organize this mess and make this site even more great.

The way It works
It's like a folder on your computer you give it a name and put files into it.
1-Create a box or shelf
2-Give it a name
3-Put some game titles into it
---------------- additional improvements if possible
4-It'll be great to add a small comment to the box if possible
5-It'll be great if there is a possibility to insert the same game into multiple boxes (I create a box for the kind of games(card,dice..) , another for their duration(long, short..) ,another for difficulty(easy , strategy , luck)..so on)
6- Also as we see in computer a (group by) option in each box will be great

--------------------------------------------------------------IDEA 2!! Filters ------------------------------------------------------------------

Sometimes you come to the site searching for a special game in your mind, some times you scroll through a long list of games to reach you desired table of the special game. So I was thinking why not to have a filter like method to ease this out ?

The way It works
Here's my suggestion:
1- The default is (SHOW ALL) that shows all tables I can join for all games are visible
2- There's an empty check box in front (I think on the down corner) of the game figure
3- If you tick it 2 things happen
a-a button that says "unmark all" appears (to instantly unmark the check boxes)
b- the only displayed tables become of that marked game
---------------- additional improvements if possible
4-It will be better if multiple games marking (show tables for all marked games)
5-It will be better if also we can mark a certain box or shelf (or even games from different boxes)

Great suggestion! I would love some filtering capability in the Play Now section.

Let me explain why this would be useful to me:

I have added quite a few games to the My Games section (roughly 40 at the moment). They are all games that I like and play often or occasionally. But, sometimes I might want to play only a certain type of game, perhaps lighter games, or sometimes something heavy. It would be so useful to be able to filter the Play Now listing according to my current desires. I find that often the Play Now list is cluttered with games that I don't want to play at the moment (and I find that it can be quite difficult to keep up with the list when in real-time mode--the list can move very fast when you have a lot of games in your My Games collection; games I might be interested in move off the screen quickly!). Still, I don't want to remove those games (that I am not currently interested in playing) from my My Games collection, because I know I'm going to want to play them some other time.

Having multiple collections would resolve this problem I think. For me, it would be useful to have collections like "All games", "Light Games", "Real-time games" (games that I would prefer to play in real time; note that having a selection of games that you prefer to play in real-time is different from simply using the "Real-time" tab at the top of the Play Now page to view available real-time games), "Turn-based games" (games that I would prefer to play in turn-based), "2-player games" (games that I would prefer to play 2-player; note that this is not the same as being able to filter for games that are currently available to play 2-player), and so on...

Is there another discussion/feature suggestion about game filtering already posted? I couldn't find any, but would appreciate a link if there is one. Thanks!

*EDIT: I found that similar topics have been discussed quite a few times already (a few years back), but with little or no resolution, and no response from the site managers, as far as I could see. Would be nice to hear if improved filters/collections are in the plans!

A very high percent of these types of requests have already been discussed, yes.

I think it would be good if they would just start with separating real-time and turn-based, and it hasn't been so very long since that was brought up. I think for many people that would go a long way, especially those who don't know 40 games. :) There's now a great little filter under Games for just searching the ever-growing game list, which is a really good help. I would think they could apply that to people's personal lists, just adding something like a "want to play now" and "don't want to play now" sort of option, so that "don't want to play now" would just be set aside and could have those basic filters that already exist. Seems that would save a bit of time/work.

It really doesn't have to be as complicated as OP's making it sound - that's a little long even for me, and I'm pretty verbose. (Not to mention that 3000 other people have already thought of it.)
