Werewolves

Post by HappyGuy »

Hi all, I would like to report a problem with an italian translator: Eurodance_Groove
he adds sentences that are not part of the original texts (in more than 70% of his translation), mainly those comments are useless and just create confusion...in addition to this he makes serious grammar mistakes, and wrong apostrophes and accents...
Correcting his translations becomes more tiring than doing them from the beginning.
Is it possible to prevent him from doing translations for a while?
thx for the help

I'll look into it, but please use the "report a player" function to report on this types of cases (and provide specific examples to clarify).

Checked it out, and your translations are clearly better. Still, this player doesn't seem to have bad intentions, and has 5 pages of translations that seem correct (ok, you fixed 3 more pages, but overall the contribution seems positive).

Maybe the best would be to communicate with him in Italian to explain the troubles you had fixing some translations so that he knows to try to do better in the future?

In my opinion, the translation guides should be supplemented to prevent particularly incompetent members from engaging in translation exercises when their level is much lower than other translators (same games, same language).

Everyone has a native language, and that is obviously not enough to pretend to translate into that language. A minimum mastery of the rules of spelling, grammar and typography seems indispensable to me: if not the translations will almost always be corrected by another person, and your work is just a waste of time for everyone.

Thanks for the reply! If can still be useful to clarify here it is just small examples

eng:This player has already been devoured by the Werewolves
translation: he adds (e digerito...) ---> it means (and digested ) looks like a joke

eng: There is a tie. No captain is elected for this game...
translation: he adds (Ahia...)

eng: There is a tie. No player is eliminated today.
translation: he adds (Fiuu... L'abbiam scampata bella stavolta !) --->why write a personal comment?

eng: Permanent power: when a building is empty, the Bailiff can assign it to a Vagabond (who may refuse to occupy it).
translation: he adds (Come si addice ad ogni Squatter che si rispetti). --->this is a bad joke

eng:--Something dark and scary jumps at you from the shadows. You die of fright immediately, without a sound.--
translation: he adds (lo spavento e' tale da smorzarti il fiato in gola)

eng:Each night, the Raven can choose a player that will have a penalty of two voices for the vote.
translation: he adds (invece di una soltanto ?) --->in this case he is asking questions

eng: --The Werewolves see something moving, jump quickly and catch the Little Girl! She immediately dies of fright: the meal for tonight is served!--
translation: he adds ( dato che il pasto per stanotte e' servito ora non e' piu' necessario tornare a cacciare (la vittima designata!) --)

there are a lot lot lot more...he just create confusion...but i'm agree with you probably he has good intention...still it create confusion...I had to correct all 8 pages... this is not cool

Hi

I wanted to correct a mistake in the Dutch version. It says "Het dorp discussieert over de situatie en probeerd om uit te vogelen wie de schuldige is"
The d in 'probeerd' should be a t 'probeert'.

I can't find where to correct it.

Thank you

I checked and he made just 5 changes today that seem ok to me so there is no "changing all again" going on.

I wrote him to discuss this, but really in my opinion the best move would have been to contact him directly to discuss the problems you encountered and fixed in his translations. That would have set a positive and collaborative tone which is the best to work together :)

yes, I seen the first page with changing and I was scared he was going to change it all....
in this case I'm not sure talking directly will help: if he accused me of stealing the translations, it means that he didn't understand it's wrong to add unnecessary comments to translations nor his grammatical errors. But I'll do as you said and i'll give a try.
