Set up a family tournament, and two lost almost immediately

Post by selimevets »

Howdy BGA friends,

Hoping someone could take a look at my tournament and tell me what I might've configured wrong. First time I've tried it, and trying to understand the nuances of timing. It was just for family/fun, but I'm hoping to use it again in the future.

https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=49814

About 5 minutes after the start time, both "Match 3" games ended saying
Game abandoned
Some players of this tournament game did not show up, so we could not start the game (these players got a penalty on their profile).
I had expected that once one player joined, the other person would have at least an hour (their total time allowed) to join/play but that wasn't the case.

Any ideas?

Well, you set the tournament up as a real-time tournament, thus requiring all players to be online to play their games at the time you set. They/some weren't there, so the corresponding games couldn't be started (as the site noted to you).

My approach to anything in life (not merely games) is to dip my toe in as a user in order to gain exposure, experience, and understanding, rather than jumping into the deep end of something I don't understand. As an example, I played in tournaments for well over a year before attempting to create and moderate any of my own. I highly recommend this approach. :-)

I hope this helps!
