Log says "Lay back" ... avoids loss of control?

Post by rmiller3 »

Can someone help me understand what happened here?

https://photos.app.goo.gl/wwYBQXrKGETLnVM78
Basically the driver accidentally exceeded the speed limit of the right turn by entering with speed 5 across the dotted line 4. He adjusted his dice after the loss of control to what my screenshot shows in image 1.

Image 2 shows that he succeeded in not losing control. The game log on the right said "lay back".

How did he avoid the loss of control when re-positioning his dice?

Yellow car replaced his dice in way to don't cross dotted symbols (passing on the left lane instead the central one)

The possibility to avoid LOC during dice replacement is a unclear and highly criticized rule that is waiting for an Autor's definitive interpretation and a clear FAQ

It has to be that way. In the real board game you remove the dice from the board and only leave a marker for your end destination when doing a flat out. Then you roll them all and place them on the board to reach the destination. That's why it works that way here as well.

Your comment about the real board game is relevant. In the real game, the dice are replaced each time, whether the Big Attack is successful or not.
In the implementation, you do not replace the dice when the Big Attack succeeds.
This is different from the real game, and in view of this behavior, the replacement of the dice due to a speed limit while the Big Attack succeeded seems aberrant.

In the real game, it never happens that the car follows a trajectory, then realizing that it causes a loss of control follows another one from its emplacement at the beginning of the turn.

Edit: The underlined sentence is incorrect. I correct my analysis later in this thread.

I thought after a loss of control, the dice MUST be replaced with another loss of control, although it could be a lesser one? (in this implementation and the board game).

From the rules (https://cdn.1j1ju.com/medias/16/97/c2-r ... lebook.pdf)

Before resolving the Loss of Control, the player must first take all of the dice they rolled (without modifying their results) and lay them back out on the track as if they were planning a normal move. They do not have to follow the same path as they originally planned, or use all of their original dice, as long as enough are placed to cause a Loss of Control.

<<key word above: "Enough are placed to cause a LOC">>. I thought this implementation forced you to cause a LOC. I'm not sure how my example player avoided it. He placed all his dice, but did not cause an LOC

Back to the rules..
The dice must still be placed as per the normal rules however. Once the dice are laid out, the Loss of Control will be resolved on the space where the (!) that caused the Loss of Control occurs, whether because it was rolled or imposed by corners or other effects. This allows the player some choice as to where and at what speed they will resolve their Loss of Control (See page 16).

<<key word above: "The loss of control will be resolved on teh space where the (!) that caused the loss of control occurs whether because it was rolled or imposed by corners....">> So is the idea that if you didn't have 3 (!) but had an issue due to a corner you can avoid it when going all out? I could've sworn I accidentally went all out and exceeded a speed limit and was not offered an option to "fix" it. Hmm, I'm sure someone already did, but I might file this as a bug to get the devs to clarify (unless you guys are the devs?)

Here's a bug they decided not to fix that someone already filed:
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=17900

It talks about how to exploit the "feature" as well as discussions with the author.
