Meeple Change

Post by Nechevo »

Am I imagining things or did the meeples change from the generic kind to a specialized cave man today?

I play on my phone and the change is horrible. I can hardly distinguish the colors due to the change...

Stone Age was upgraded today to the Anniversary edition, with graphical assets provided by the publisher.

The new design of the meeples makes it harder to discern how many meeples are placed in an area. They are sized too big and there's not enough space between them when they are on a field. Official design or not, they don't work well for the game.

You now have THREE DIFFERENT icons for food on the cards and this is confusing to players as only one of the icons matches what's in the area for the player's resources.

You've also apparently changed how a player knows they can take any to resources by putting ONLY an icon in the area for the player's resources. It is not remotely apparent when you are playing the game that you have resources available to you.

The images and graphics were fine the way they were. I really wish you would stop mucking about with aesthetics that truly do not make the game better. PLEASE UNDO THIS ANNIVERSARY UPDATE!!

Sometimes designers have been known to offer beta testing or mock up illustrations so that users can chime in on changes before they happen. Stone Age is the games that I play most and I would welcome the opportunity to be able to participate BEFORE you go and change stuff.

My board seems less crisp since the change and for some reason was giving me a headache as it was hard to focus on. For the love of all things Stoneage please change it back!!

I play on a tablet (8' inch android) and on computer (chromium 1920*1080). It seems blurry on the computer - to the point that I will probably stop playing that way, and very nice on the tablet (well, compared to the computer).
It always takes a while to adapt to change (hence part of the negative reactions), but I really think that there is a user experience degradation (especially on the meeples).

Thanks for your feedback! About the yellow meeple visibility issue some of you experienced on the summer board, we have introduced a player preference. By default, the old style meeples are used again; if an anniversary variant is selected, the anniversary meeples are used (there is no visibility issue on the winter board). And you can switch from your player preferences (top right menu) so you have full control on which meeple style you prefer.

For other issues you might encounter, please provide detailed feedback (with screenshots) in our bug reports system (https://boardgamearena.com/bugs) so that it can be properly examined. This is definitely an upgrade, and we want it to work well, please help us figure out the issues to fix them :)

Happy you enjoy it! The credit for this update goes to Inaofr, the developer who did all the hard work :)
