Harsh Winter, Igloos, Wild Animals

Post by 57erniepyle »

I fail to see, either here or on Board Game Geek, any information on how these three variants work. Would someone explain?

As far as gameplay, I've found that Harsh Winter makes stone and gold more valuable. Igloos give a point bonus to resources if you aren't concerned with end-of-game points for building. And wild animals are just plain fun, reducing your die rolls (oh, and have a good chance of giving you a great return on worker investment).

I have talked to qpenguin, the arena champion of season 1, and we both agreed that the expansion effectively kills the game. Essentially you can meeple meeple starvation early and gather as much resources as you want without fear of getting stuck with too many resources as you can dump them into buildings and cards.

In normal game, I can say that starvation is a relatively inferior strategy because you are less flexible and more prone to get blocked by stronger players.
