"From Existing Project" field not available when creating a new project

Post by Nicholas_M »

I recently created a new account and I'm trying to go through the tutorial for creating a new game project. I filled in my project name and entered in a BGG ID of 0, then clicked "create project." But I get this error:

Failed to get mandatory argument: fromgamename

I opened the chrome developer tools and noticed that there should be a field where I can insert a "fromgamename" parameter, but it seems to have been commented out:

is this happening for anybody else?

Maybe related to what Een said in the thread missing gamename.inc.php ?

On the manage game page for your project, you now have a new "Overwrite project feature" which is more apt to get a proper clone for non-standard projects. Cloning at game creation will be disabled with a next release as it seems to create more trouble than anything else from devs discovering the studio and starting by cloning a non-standard project.
Maybe the next release came very fast? (Or maybe this is a bug.) Maybe you should not try to create a project by cloning a game, but instead create an empty project, then, in your control panel, use this new "Overwrite project feature" to import in your new project the game you want to clone?

Can you point me in the right direction for where to do that? It seems like Control Panel > Manage Games > Create New Game Project is the only way to create a new project, at least through the main UI. Is there a way to push a project through the SFTP server so that BGA studio will recognize it?

I am also experiencing this. I was trying to test out a tutorial, so wasn't trying to clone an existing game, but had the same results.

Because I was seeing errors I deleted an old attempt, even trying to revive it gets me the error.

Well, I think that I was mistaken by the error message "Failed to get mandatory argument: fromgamename", I believed that there were two different forms, one for creating a new project, and one for cloning an existing project (and I thought that the tutorial you were refering to was pointing to the second one).
But it seems that you were already trying to do what I suggested, and that it doesn't work at the moment because there is a bug.
