Hi, until recently, I played Hanabi only IRL and me and my friends didn't quite like it because the memorization part is "too heavy" for us. (Maybe we were not creative enough in marking hand cards by sorting them or rotating them or whatever.)
Now I discover that the BGA adaptation leaves out the memorization aspect of the game almost entirely. Well, so far so good, BGA admins themselves said that this is an adaptation of the game.
What really surprises me is that almost everyone seems to be ok with that. I don't find any big complaints in the forum about this being against the spirit of the game or that people demand a game variant with no permanent markers on cards.
For real-life games, the memorization aspect is a core mechanic of the game. Is nobody really missing it on BGA? I am also asking because there is an ongoing discussion in the 7Wonders forum about whether the memorization part of 7W is a core aspect of it and some players strongly argue that it is and that they do not want to miss it. However, memorization is even more obviously a core mechanic for real-life Hanabi but nobody seems to care that it isn't on BGA Hanabi. It's just a bit unexpected to me and I wanted to read what the Hanabi players think about it.
