What Do the Gold Stars Signify?

On each player's panel, there is a gold star with a number next to it. In other BGA games, this usually indicates the number of victory points accumulated, but there don't appear to be any points in Rallyman GT, so does anyone know what the numbers represent?

The Championship expansion introduced the idea of tournaments, where players would accumulate points over multiple races based on their final positions in each race.

1st: 25 points
2nd: 18
3rd: 15
4th: 12
5th: 10
6th: 8

BGA displays those points even though there aren’t in-built tournaments and they aren’t tallied. It’s an easy way to see who’s first, second, etc, though.
