Discrimination !

Post by CaractacusPots »

Hi

I get really sick of games developers having no consideration for colourblind people. It's crazy.

I appreciate you can go premium and choose colours but on a casual basis the use of red and green tokens, chips or Meeples is horrible for those of us with this condition. There should be some way to change colours outside of premium. It's plain discrimination otherwise. Even playing a 3-person game of Carcasonne the system chose red, green and black for the Meeples which is just ludicrous when blue and yellow are available.

Just really poor show. Happens way too often with games developers.

Please consider updating your game algorithms to never use red and green together unless absolutely necessary.

Not an expert at color blindness, but are you?

There are different kinds of color blindness, and it is difficult to work with all of them.
Please consider updating your game algorithms to never use red and green together unless absolutely necessary.
That is your sopecific problem, but another person with a different type of color blindness might have a different problem. Are there no solutions that your PC(or device) can modify it's colors that better suit your needs?

You can use the CSS override feature to apply filters to conflicting colors.
See this thread for some examples.

The CSS are not possible, due to unsafe stuff (website isn't available for seeing how to do it)

He may be talking about how CSS sharing was disabled recently.

Device settings can only help so much. Games don't necessarily have to change colors, but they should provide other means of differentiation. Game devs can use symbols or words in addition to colors.

That said, devs should be testing their games in color blind modes to see what it's like. It doesn't take much and goes a long way.

Please also remember that the license agreements BGA has with the publishers state that the digital game must be as close to the physical game as possible. Meaning if the original game is team red vs team green, BGA can't arbitrarily make it team white vs team black. If the original game is not colorblind friendly, complaints need to be directed to the publisher, not BGA devs.
