With the hold put on the turn-by-turn arena people are probably going back to tournament to find competitive turn-by-turn game. The tournament interface is not perfect obviously but I think that the main problem is that you cannot find a tournament based on your own criteria, and thus have to go through each tournament to find one adequate.
I'll speak of the game I know best : kingdomino. The majority of the tournaments (and arena) are done with all options activated. But a decent portion is 5x5 (and some 7x7 without options). But 5x5 and 7x7 are not the same game by a long shot.
So suggestion : make a tournament search based on the interface you have for normal game. In particular allow to select option to show tournements (best case would be to have the additional "either choice" available). You could also filter by timer (shorter than / longer than).
