Advanced rules explanation

Post by Darill »

Hi everyone,

I have a question about advanced rules objective.

In rules it is defined as follows:
To achieve these goals, all houses must be built in the required street.
Does using roundabout on that street voids the achievement? Rules about roundabout states:
...create one of the two roundabouts available on an empty house’s box.
I looked in the official Czech translation and the plan states:
Ke splnění tohoto projektu je potřeba mít očíslovány všechny domy v požadované ulici.
For those, who doesn't speak czech, it says roughly "You have to have a number on every house on the street".

So in my opinion roundabout is not a house and the achievement can't be completed. Or can it be used as a house?

Thx for your input!

I'm 99% sure a roundabout is ok in the street, I recall some BGG thread about it.
In current implementation, that's how it's work anyway.

According to the rules, a roundabout is "created", not "built". Absolutely nothing in the rule suggests that a roundabout could replace a house built for the purpose of the objective "all houses must be built in the required street".
When a roundabout is built, there is no longer one street, but two streets. The objective is not to build houses in these two streets, but in one street (without a S at end), which clearly excludes the existence of a roundabout in the required street.

Cool but have you searched BGG thread as I pointed out ? I have spent lot of times searching for rules clarifications while implementing so as I said I'm sure this question was raised before on BGG and that.the designer provided an answer which was, I think, the one I gave already, which is why it is implemented this way. That would not be the first time a rulebool is not precise enough...

I found this thread Can a Roundabout complete a street? which confirms the current implementation.
I had not looked so much for the rule seemed clear to me on this point. Now, if the game designer contradicts the rule, I bow.

I think the objective was meant to be «no empty spot on the row». Not the first time a rulebook is confusing, I am currently working on Bang where this is even worse
