Inappropriate avatar?

Post by nandblock »

Thoughts, anyone? (The avatar in question is a caricatured black man in a turban with thick lips.)

Well, it is probably based on a mocking stereotypical caricature of a black man. That character doesn't even have teeth.

That would be Mr Popo from Dragon Ball Z. So it is an established character in an anime series.

I'm going to take my nerd points and leave now

Well, glad to know the source, but ... that doesn't really address the question.

I'm not sure when "no teeth" became a black stereotype.

Nor did I say that it is.

I don't really want to start a larger discussion or critique of the people who run this site. I just, you know, don't want to stumble across blackface caricatures when I'm on the site. Just because the image is taken from some popular anime that doesn't absolve it of its (very obvious) offensiveness.

Many adblockers allow you to individually block images. With a couple of clicks you'll never see the image again. Good luck!

So it's apparently my responsibility to find a way to avoid seeing racist images on this site?
