Some games (like Welcome To Vegas) falling through the cracks

Post by OutOfHabit »

I notice that some games have improvements being made where others are just left to die.
It is really frustrating especially in the case of Welcome To New Las Vegas: awesome improvements were added to Welcome To shortly after its release, but were never added to the Vegas brother.
Bug reports were made months ago and just sit unresponded to.
And many other games have miles of issues reported and not replied to, either.

I know each game is implemented individually, but it is frustrating to see the ones that just aren’t being attended to.
And in the case of the Welcome Tos, it just leaves a feeling that only Premium games matter to BGA. As a Premium Member, i don’t care only about Premium games.

It's a big problem when games are developed and maintained by volunteers. But the huge benefit of games developed by volunteers is that you can have MUCH MUCH more available games. So maybe it's just something we have to accept.
BGA has tried to solve this problem by giving gift points to developers fixing bugs in existing games. I don't know if this has worked a lot, but there are at least a few developers that have taken charge of some existing games.

That is true. Thanks for the perspective. Wish there was a viable solution employed.

Definitively not a lot. I only know very few cases.
Digging in someone else code can be really hard, in particular if you are not familiar with the framework itself.

Sadly for WTNLS, it was done by a dev that is no longer here but his code is kind of bulky/hard to maintain and so it would probably be better at some point to just redo it by using some code of Welcome To, which is actually what was planned at some point but volonteers are missing time to work on this.

Not only hard, but also forbidding and in many cases just plain boring. Also, as you do not have the full understanding of prior code, there is great chances that your fixes also adds subtle bugs afterwards that you will have to cope with. It really requires dedication to achieve that.

There is a solution, you could offer to fix the bugs in the open source development

I think the "Hex" developper isn't there anymore too? Because there is still an issue about the mobiles.
