Dragon Egg interface

I tried clicking on the dragon egg, it asked me to pick a target. I tried clicking on the Dragon I wanted to buy and it wouldn't let me. I wasn't sure what to do, so I clicked "no target" and it discarded the Dragon Egg to my discard pile.

What did I do wrong?

If no dragon was highlighted, it just mean that you didn't have enough resources to buy one, even with a -4 Essence discount.

It's possible to play some cards without choosing a target, mainly as a way to buy some time, that's what you did by selecting "No target".

You should have clicked the 'Cancel' button and choosed another card to play.
