Improved graphics

Post by galehar »

I just pushed an update to improve the graphics.
First, if you experience any sort of graphical glitch, start by doing a hard refresh of your browser (shift+reload) and/or clear your browser cache. If something is still wrong, please, report it with a screenshot, browser version and the resolution used. Thanks.
The size of the cards is now configurable through user preferences. In case you don't know about preferences (like many players), you access it by the menu on the top right corner. There are already 3 preferences to choose the position of the history log, to disable all tooltips and to disable the rftg theme.
This update add 3 new user preferences. The first one let you choose the size of the cards among 5 different ones: tiny (the previous size), small, medium, large and huge. The default auto setting will choose a size that will fit 10 cards in one line.
The second preference lets you control the size of the card displayed in the tooltip. By selecting "No", the tooltip will be like it used to and there won't be any card there. The default auto setting will choose a size bigger by 2 ranks than the card size. Large and huge settings have no card on tooltip by default.
The third preference is to control the tooltip delay. On BGA, the tooltip delay is usually 400 ms, but it has been 0 ms on rftg for some reason. I figured the instant tooltip might be annoying with the "card on tooltip", so the default delay depends on the previous preference. With "card on tooltip", we default to the usual 400 ms and without it the default is the historical 0 ms (instant tooltip).
I've also cleaned up the graphics by removing some useless stuff: upside down produce power in the card top, preset hand numbers and empty grey rectangles which contains the textual description of powers. I've also removed the rectangles that contained the 6dev scoring. They were big rectangles, mostly empty, containing a few small and hard to read icons which partially described their scoring. Those big rectangles completely hid the art on some 6devs. Now we can see it!
The 6dev scoring is still displayed in the tooltip. I plan on improving them with icons. Maybe I'll add another user preference to make the scoring visible on the card again (something like always / on hover / when selected / never).

edit: here is how to find the user preferences:

All this sounds good! But I have one concern: if I understand the intent, big/huge cards setting is used to avoid using tooltips altogether, but with textboxed removed cards now don't have all info on them, is that correct?

Not quite. The default setting for "card on tooltip" is no when card size is set to large or huge. It just disables the card graphic on the tooltip, not the tooltip itself. And it's just a default setting, you can set it to whatever you want of course.

I understand that you still get all info in tooltip. My question is, can you get full info without relying on tooltips? As I see it (or at least how I would try to use this feature) setting cards to huge makes all cards and info on them visible, so there is no need to check tooltips every time. But if some of that info is removed from card itself (textboxes), then I must use tooltips to see those anyway?

The power icons are clearly visible now. The textual description of those powers are not on the card and they have never been. I think it's fine to have those on the tooltip, once you have understood a power, the icons are enough.
The 6dev scoring are only on the tooltip for now, but I might change that. Will do some experiment.
