Hey there everyone,

I am confused about how the points are calculated with the Scientific Structures. For example, suppose I have 3 tablets, one sprocket, and 3 compasses. I would figure this creates 6 sets. Therefore, the total ought to be 42. The last game I played, I only received 36 points. This is not even a multiple of 7. How does the game figure out the points?

If you were given 36 for this it sounds like a bug - or more likely you were misunderstanding something.

These scientific cards are only worth 26 points:

9 for the 3 tablets
1 for the single sprocket
9 for the 3 compasses
7 for the single set of all 3

I suggest you reread the rules for scientific scoring because you seem to be confused, and cannot figure out how you might imagine there are 6 sets of anything in these cards.

A "set" in this context is 3 cards consisting of one of each symbol, so you get 7 times the number you have of your lowest symbol.

But you also get points for each symbol individually, based on the square of the number you have - so a single card is worth 1 point for that symbol, 2 cards is worth 4, 3 is worth 9 and so on.

Thinking more about it, I guess you might have had a wildcard symbol somewhere from a purple card or wonder stage. That is best used here as a second sprocket (and the game will choose the best option automatically), whic makes your science score 9+4+9+(2*7), ie 36

You are right. Your explanation reminded me there was the wild card with a purple border.
