ELO

Post by Olio Sunsee »

Hi

(Probably already answered somewhere in the forum, but searching for ELO with the search restrictions is hard :D )

How come you get negative ELO points because of your partner in a team game (concretely here, Tichu)? Explanation in the mouse over says "Tie - 50% chance of winning against ..." when playing in team with a similar strong player. Maybe just me, but I'd rate the chance to win over my partner in a Tichu game exactly at 0%.

ELO doesn't work correctly for any team game. Tichu, Belote, Not Alone and some others. Maybe upvote here helps? https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=11297

Unfortunately the system as it is now punishes the stronger player in the team double:
If you have 300 and your partner has 100. When you beat your opponents who have both 200, it would make sense that you gain ELO like a 200-ELO player winning against a 200-ELO player.
Instead you not only lose ELO for the "tie" against your partner, but in addition you only gain ELO from your opponents like a 300-ELO-player winning against 200-ELO-player which gains you less then if you were counted as a 200-ELO player. But it should be respected that you teamed up with a weaker player which made it harder for you to win.
Check out the Allround-League: https://boardgamearena.com/group?id=7870115 --> a league where you have matches of random games vs. other players in your group. Season 9 registration oct. '25.
