Developer intros

Post by ddyer »

In an effort to get a little more juice flowing among the fledgeling developers; use this thread to post general information about you, your project, and your expertise and interests.

I'm going to work on "Go" as my introductory project. Go is a very simple game to implement (except for the scoring phase which is impossible. :).
I have a lot of experience with online games in general, with client/server systems, and with SQL, but I'm only slightly familiar with PHP, and I loth javascript.
So this will be a learning experience.

Hi ! I'm here to (try to) devellop my own game, called Mutagene (post-apocaliptic skirmish, with mutants, dices and original AP system).

You can read more (in french, sorry) on http://www.mutagene.org. If there's any french devellopers who want to help, don't hesitate to contact me ;)

Hi! Thanks ddyer to launch discussions on the dev forum!
Intros are a great idea, but maybe it would be best to keep the names of the games being developed confidential, to keep the surprise fresh for the forum riddles?
We were thinking to use the forum mainly for exchanges about the framework.
Anyway, do as you think is best ;)

It's rather difficult to discuss practical problems without naming the games being discussed; and with "get your friends to help test" as part of the development plan, secret game names are a lost cause.

We should start a different conversation about promoting the new games (It's not my strong point); but I don't believe you can build a suspense campaign based on nothing unless you have a very large megaphone at your disposal. "Who shot J.R." only works if you already have millions of eyes watching.

I have the same problem, I have like 10 games I'd like to be in BGA, but I understand very little in programming. (my games are translated in english and spanish)

I don't want to be too discouraging, but programming an online game isn't a task for neophytes.

If your goal is promoting your games, I would start with static web pages with rules and print-n-play materials and use boardgamegeek as a focus to try to attract players.

hello world (private joke :D ^^)

I'm in the developper team too. I was used to program PLC for my last work, and I always loved to implement macros on Excell.
I like programming because it gives life to your system (packaging machine or PC, same fight). Sometimes, it's like in the real life : it insults you
The last time i've seen object programming, database and Client/Server stuff was in my ingeneer school, so it' not yesterday :?
I'm not a neophyte but i have not all the clues, so i'll ask a thousand of questions, just for fun.
(as you see english is not my mother tongue...)
