Recommendations for Beginners

Hi, I am new to board games and was wondering if anyone can recommend what kind of board games I can start with?

6 nimmt!, Can't Stop and Lucky Numbers are the most popular from that category.

Kingdomino and Lost Cities and are also very popular and easy to play but require a degree of strategy / thinking.

My personal picks from that list would be:
Haiclue: Word guessing game.
Similo: Picture Clue Guessing game.
Love Letter : Bluff and deduction.
Martian Dice: Push your luck like can't stop.
Bandido : Co-op, very easy.
Concept, : Board game version of Charades.
StirFry18 : Simple bluff game.
Red7 (with no advanced options) : Easy card game with twists.

Agreed, but whether intentionally or not, this sadly makes it sound like the 3 first-named gamed do NOT require strategy or thinking. Whereas in my opinion, 6 nimmt at least CERTAINLY requires a good deal of thinking and planning ahead. That doesn't stop it being easy to play and pick up, of course - which is part of the beauty of it, but it's certainly not a game that can be played on "autopilot".

That's the clearest example to me but I wouldn't say Can't Stop is lacking in strategy or thinking either. (Can't comment on Lucky Numbers as I've never played it and know nothing about it.)

Well I didn't say that. Sure, all games require thinking, and you can always crank it up a notch in competitive play, but this is completely beside the OP point. 6 Nimmt! can be played with little or no strategy and people still enjoy it and understand it.
The first 3 games all have a very quick feedback mechanism in the game to let you know if you're doing well or not.
I play with both young and old family members, so from experience I get to know why certain games will get played over others. Every game I picked out did those things.

If you want to go a step further, you can check for games with tutorial https://boardgamearena.com/gamelist?sec ... tutorial=1 and maybe adjust there the filter for complexity according to what suits you.

Try out and have fun
