Well since a topic I created yesterday got locked and censored, I am reopening it in clean style.

I got warned (moderated -10 karma) for saying the following things in a 1v1 lobby.

"i dont like u"
"u are not good"
"u get red thumb after"
"enjoy ban"

I cannot put the chat logs or it will get locked, but that doesnt matter, because I did reach to their support asking what got me moderated after all.
This is the response I got:

Telling a player that you do not like them and that they are not very good is rude behaviour. There is no reason to say these things to another player. Please use respect when chatting.

So it seems that the text in bold is the culprit, but do you find that rude? I dont. It is simply my opinion and it is stated as plain as it can get. Its also kinda ironic how you are not allowed to tell people they are not good on a platform for board games. Like eventually someone bad will play against you and you are not allowed to tell them if that is so.

The white knights will storm in on this thread saying "you are just typing this to make the other person feel bad therefore its rude". Assuming it is so, where do we draw the line? Once someone typed "zzz" in chat because I took some more time to read the tooltips. Is that rude? It did make me feel angry, because apperently people dont have 10 sec of patience when playing. So is that moderatable as well? Or what if it is any comment?

"gg" is the most common and I hate it. People always say it when they win just to rub it in. Yet I cannot report them for it. Because some outside authority has decided what is rude and what is not. They have objectified what is ultimetly subjective and I dont think that is good for any platform.

In any case I am not trying to contest the moderation, but it just made me so angry, because I am now literally afraid to type anything, because someone might find it offensive. And tips like "just dont act like a douche" or "act how you would act irl" dont work. I have been to plenty of board game clubs and have played with a lot of people. I have told them they are not good and that they are winning due to sheer luck. When they want to play again I just leave and tell them I dont like them and dont wanna play with them. I just dont see what is so disrespectful about any of this?

Why dont they just put some more given lines for the chat like they alread have for some and just disable it. It is nothing but gg void or potental moderation report.

But game chat is not a place for the world to hear and see you. It's a 1-on-1-communication with other players on the table. It's purpose is to exchange friendly words or interesting information. Why do you want a person that you don't even like to know what's on your mind?

I honestly can't tell if you are trolling or not. But assuming you aren't ...

There's no use in saying to another player he or she is no good. If I notice that I'm playing a lot better than another player, I often offer them advice. Some small things, so they can actually become better. Seems far more productive and nice to me.

As for 'I don't like you' ... that might be the case. No need telling the other person, you can just leave it like that and leave the game.

I would be surprised if you could really go to a board game club and start telling other people they aren't good, they are winning due to luck, that you don't like them. I'm certain such attitude doesn't get tolerated in the board game groups I go to, and rightfully so ! People at a board game club are there to have a good time playing board games together. What you do is the exact opposite.

It's common sense and I'm pretty sure it's also part of BGA code of conduct. My words might not be exact official words but I know part of the guideline of chat is to be friendly towards others.

The only effect those words have on the recipient is for them to feel bad or angry. There isn't much room for interpretation. So it seems to me like you WANT the other person to feel bad. It's not about your right to speak. If it were just about speaking, you can say it out loud in your room. Or tell someone else. When you say it to the one person, it is about, then it's about the other person to feel bad. And that is not ok.

The answer to all of the above is: common sense. Socially unaccepted behavour. But it seems to me that for you that's only the case if it's written somewhere, or if it's a law. Sorry, but social behaviour doesn't work like that.

Everyone is supposed to be smiling and friendly. That is not ok. And punishing people for such plain things is stupid. And so what if they deduct 10 karma. Big deal. Might as well just not do it and waste their mods time . Even if I said it to make him feel bad, they can just red thumb me and move on with their life, but nooo lets go make a report.

Instead of bemoaning your situation, you could have just red thumbed and moved on. Instead of telling someone they aren't good and that you don't like them you could have just red thumbed and moved on.

You're the one with the problem here. I think people would rather exclude you and your behaviour and have people stick to a general rule of politeness than have BGA become a place debased by that kind of behaviour.
