Banning players from BGA Tournaments

Hello,

I've raised this issue with tournament admin before and it seems like there is currently no option to block certain people from joining tournaments. I would like to propose a way for tournament admin to exclude certain players from joining tournaments who are known to have an extremely bad reputation.

Failing that, is there a way to stop someone who has a constantly bad reputation from joining tournaments?

My issue, which is an ongoing one and not one that I'm alone in suffering from, is with the player ***

Their stats:
Quit games = 654
Time outs = 1844
(On 2905 recent games)
Reputation 0%

Even though I've given this player a red thumb, there's nothing else I can do. EVERY single tournament game that I've played with them (2p or multiple players) has timed out because of them. It ruins the tournaments and holds up matches unnecessarily.

I've tried bringing this to the attention of the site's admin when giving a red thumb, but there's no option besides 'this is a personal opinion' for reporting such negative actions, and then it's just ignored.

Someone who has quit 654 recent games is clearly not someone that is causing only me problems.

Please can you put restrictions on this player joining tournament games or even block them from the site for repeated (after years) bad behaviour. It's disrespectful to other players and it seems like there is nothing done by the site.

From looking through this forum, it seems to me that one can create an invitation-only tournament.
If so, then based on ​ https://boardgamearena.com/forum/viewto ... 65&t=21469 ,
you could potentially create a ​ Completion-Aimed Tournament ​ thread, in which you

keep in the opening post a list of people who are excluded
and
post tournament announcements, including a link to your
user-page so people can message you to get an invite

.


(If BGA leaves the tournament system as-is, then
I can't immediately think of anything better for this.)

Thanks for the reply. That's a good idea, but the tournaments would all have to be set like that, which kind of goes against the openness of the tournament format where everyone (who doesn't play 100's of games and quits them) should be able to join freely. The tournaments that * joins are large tournaments with hundreds of people - trying to invite everyone would be impossible

Making the default setting of tournaments 85%+ reputation would also help a lot.

As well as players like * who transgress across multiple tournament formats, there are certain low-rep players who sign up for all the tournaments in a specific game and then ruin them for everyone else by never playing, or stopping playing once they've lost a couple of games.

Tournaments and Arena have some serious problems with players and their reputation.
The example you've given is very severe and shows an obvious problem.

I really wish the BGA staff had their ear to the ground and knew what was going on more. Unfortunately, none of the BGA staff play in tournaments or Arena or even play with strangers. In their eyes, everything's rosy.

Start a tournament yourself and restrict it to people with reputation of 75% or better....?

You do realise that the reason I've created this post is because the moderation system DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO REPORT THEM!

All I get every time I try to report them is basically it's my problem and too bad.

I really wish BGA would do something about bad players ruining the games for everyone.

As for making my own tournaments and setting the criteria to 85% - this doesn't in any way solve the problem.

YET AGAIN... it's pushing responsibility on me when this should be handled by the site. Allowing people to play a few games to get their reputation up to 100% in a day means that these people are always going to be able to join the games even with the level set at 85%.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!

Reporting Options:

The person quit
BGA's response: The first player to quit a game in progress receives a leave penalty and an ELO penalty corresponding to a game loss. Thus, there is no need to report this player (although you may want to give the player a red thumb if they quit intentionally).

Ruined a game by playing slowly or quit
BGA's response: We totally understand that this behavor is painful, especially in cooperative games.
However, we cannot force players to play in a given manner, as long as they follow the rules.
We also cannot force a player to play faster: if you are in this situation, you should select a faster time option before starting your game.
This is why in this situation, you should give this player a Red Thumb instead of reporting him / her to moderators.

Other reason
BGA's response: Sorry, but if the problem is not in ANY of the previous categories, it is probably not a violation of our Terms of Use.
In such a situation, we strongly recommend that you give a Red Thumb to this player, so they will not be able to play or chat with you anymore, instead of contacting the moderators.

LITERALLY NO HELP AT ALL.
