Game Popularity

I'm just curious if anybody knows how the most popular games are ranked on this website? According to BGA, Catan is now the most popular game. But Azul actually has more games running. Not really that important, it's just something I often wondered about.

Many people are playing Catan because it's new.
And you don't have all the games which has been created one month ago and are waiting for someone slow to play.
So normal Catan has less games.
