Any interest in developing Kohaku for BGA?

Post by 3ddevine2 »

Hello,

I am the designer of Kohaku, a peaceful tile laying game about building a koi pond, published by Gold Seal Games and 25th Century Games. I think this game would be perfect for Board Game Arena and my publishers have given me permission to look into the process :)

I am a big fan of BGA, and would love to see one of my games here to play. I was sent to this forum from BGG. I was told it may be a good place to start to see if there was interest.

If this is the wrong place for this type of message I apologize.

Thanks,
Danny

Hello,

If you didn't get any answer, I'd like to develop this game. I already started to look into it and I have a basic layout with a little setup (no art, however). If you are interested to have this game on BGA and you have permission from the publishers, I can continue to develop it in my spare time, which means I can take a while to complete it (it's a simple game, hopefully it doesn't take a long time). At some point I'll need the art for the game, so we need to keep in touch.

About myself, I'm an actual developer for living, and I have played 1000+ games on BGA. However it's the first time I'm developing a game on it (except the tutorial ones), which can be slow me down because I need to take familiarity with the framework.

Let me know if you're interested!

Thanks,
Giuseppe

Has there been any progress on someone developing Kohaku for BGA? It's one of my all time favorites and I'd love to see it on here!

Sadly no :(

I have had 3 different people reach out to make the game, only to ghost me shortly after receiving the art files. I never saw as much as a single in progress screen shot.

I would still love to see the game on BGA, I think it would play great on here.

Dang that's a shame, sorry to hear that. My wife and I always say how well it would play on here even with the sundials expansion too. The game plays so quick that without setup, digitally I think it would do well. If I knew how to develop it I would haha.

Hopefully someone comes along with serious intent to help out. Till then, thanks for designing such an excellent game, it's a favorite in our house!

Are you looking for a paid freelance developer or an unpaid volunteer one ? This information would be useful for potential developers before they contact you, or any other game publisher / author interested in adapting their game to BGA

Unfortuantly its the unpaid volunteer option, the publisher had stated did not have funds to allocate for it. So it makes sense why the game has not had anyone finish it.

At one point (2022) I looked into what it would cost and a developer told me around $2,100 and 2 copies of the physical game, which felt fair, but that would have been out of pocket for me. I know it takes a lot of work to make a game here, but its not something I can currently justify spending that much on personally.

Kohaku is in alpha though, which means a developer has brought their project to a playable status, but there are still some bugs to correct.

Whoa! Thats news to me. I have not heard anything about that.

I also don't know where to find that information. Does it say who the developer is? Id love to reach out to see if I can help.

If you are an alpha reviewer, the page is here https://boardgamearena.com/gamepanel?game=kohaku. The developper is nyxbird, and you can ask them to add you to the players' group, so you have access to the game (if you are not an alpha reviewer already)
