Player not showing up in a swiss system tournament for some rounds.

Post by Hardin2000 »

Hello.
I'm asking if a player will be eliminated from a tournament after not showing up for some rounds in Swiss System?

This is what is happening on my group of a 20 rounds of swiss system tournament on stage 1 (3 players per game) ...
On last two rounds I was leading my group and since i already had played against all the best, as leader i got as opponents the 2 last on tournament on rounds 12 and 13. The problem is that the last on tournament is not logging in BGA for 28 days. So it already failed (loosing by time) some rounds, and delaying the finish of the round for everyone.

And for me as leader if i will meat this player for the last 7 rounds, i will have horrible non games, where i will need to wait 3 days to skip a player, and then play a unbalanced game with the remain player, in 1x1, when the game options was designed for 3.

It's also a strange algorithm that makes the leader of the tournament play against the last 2 on the tournament 2 times in a row, and maybe will be like that till the game finish.

But even if wasn't the leader suffering that issue, it would be someone else.
And this delayi of 3 each round to at least skip this player and then start to play one unbalanced game with the other player, will make all 30 players of the tournament wait for a game with a bot...

So again I will ask if there is a way to eliminate this player, or if this will occur automatically after the skipped player fail a certain number of consecutive games in a tournament?

Thanks

If you just let the game timer run down, that player will keep reappearing in future rounds of the tournament. If you skip them, once their karma goes below 20%, they will be automatically removed from the tournament. But that can take a few rounds and mess up their opponents' chances a lot in a tournament, since the victory points get shared among the whole remaining group each time.

I feel your pain. In a recent tournament, I was well ahead, but then was paired 5 games out of 10 against the same non-playing opponent.

BGA is still doing too little to deal with tournament 'ghosts' IMO.

The problem is that this player only have one more tournament, so it's still at 55% reputation. So I think i will have to play with her/him 7 more times... Till last round. xD. Since I think the player will only loose 3% per round. Right?

But i still not understand why is the tournament leader that need to play with that "ghost" player every round.

I'm pretty sure the kick/quit penalties are heavier than 3% now, at least after the first time.

But yes, it's neither an instant nor an optimal solution. Just the best we can do without more action from BGA.

And no, the leader should not be matched with ghosts every time: we both just got unlucky.

I think the karma penalty for timing out in a tournament game is still only 4%. It's way too low.

The guy who timed out in this game only got a 4% penalty.

This is the tournament.

I was in front on my group on Stage 1, before this round (13th out of 20) with 40 points. All my main opponents had 38.

I got the last one (the one that is 1 month away) and some other player from near bottom of the table. This happend for me on last 2 rounds.

On first i could win, on 2nd I was 2nd. (lost 40-39) but anyway, both games become random after someone is skipped, since the one that play after the bot of the skipped one, get great advantage, because on this game will always play first. This unfair madness only happens when there is a bot.

Fortunatly being 2nd on the game, allowed all the ones that had 38 and was 2 points behind me, got me on this turn and probably i will not be the one playing with the bot. but till the end of the 20 rounds i may get it 1 or 2 times more.
