Reporting User Names

Post by Snowcrash000 »

I find it incredible that there is no option to report user names on this site. Not only that, but when you try to report a user and find no option to do so, the site finally tells you that "if the problem does not fit any category, it's probably not against the terms of use". However, the TOS clearly states:

"not to disseminate Content on the Player Site and/or the Applications and/or using the Services that incites hatred or violence, is threatening, aggressive, pornographic, for the purposes of pimping, or paedophilic, obscene, vulgar, racist, sexually explicit, violent, contrary to good morals, xenophobic, hacking or proselytizing, or containing gratuitous nudity or violence, as well as more generally a liability action."

So what about user names that are racist, xenophobic, obscene or vulgar? While I haven't really come across any on this site (yet), I've seen some really * up user names in online games and I've never played one that didn't have an option to report those names.

To be clear: I'm not talking about stupid, juvenile names here, you can simply block those people and never have to deal with them again. I'm talking about user names that incite hatred and you should absolutely be able to report those names, otherwise BGA might be seen as tolerating those names.

*Moderator edit: please remember that BGA is a family-friendly platform and use appropriate language.

Well - it's just wrong. You can report usernames.

Maybe "read more" is not the best label for a button that shows "other reasons" - but maybe try clicking it anyway when you don't find the option you want to report them for ;)

There is no option to report player names in the whole list, at least not in German. If there is one in English, this may be a translation error. I clicked on "Read More" until the last option is "This player did not do anything of the above".

I looked it up in german. Seems to be indeed a translation error. Maybe they changed the label later in english but not in other languages...

Yep, that's a translation error, and a pretty bad one too, as the German text for the last option reads:

"Dieser Spieler verwendet ein unangemessenes Benutzerbild (Pornographie, politisch, Werbung)."

Which translates as something completely different:

"This player uses an inappropriate avatar picture (pornographic, political, advertisement)."

Not sure how something like that happens, but I'm gonna report it now.

Probably german translation was from an earlier version of the english text and when english version changed, the german did not.

Um, be careful of the pot calling the kettle black. :) What may be considered acceptable in one community may be considered vulgar/obscene in others.
