Error joining game followed by penalty?

So I attempted to join a game a little earlier but something seemed to go wrong and I got a red error box. I got returned to the lobby and the game I wanted to join seemed gone. I got several messages from the "Table", telling me that one of the players went on and offline several times, though it didn't say the game name (which I always thought meant the game wasn't running). Then a few moments later I got a notification that I'd quit the game and been given a penalty. I'm guessing there's not much that can be done about this since I can't really prove what happened - the game logs appear as if I just never participated and the other players (fairly) skipped my turn. It's also only one penalty, which I would guess is not that big a deal, but I just wondered, is there any recourse about penalties in this kind of situation? I've done a bit of a search on the site, FAQs, forums, and can't find anything about it. Is there any policy on this? Thanks.

This happens to me too from time to time (error message + seemingly game start interrupted). While most of the time, after clicking accept, you get to the table-view, sometimes you don't. I think it might have something to do with having BGA open on multiple tabs and there's a difference when you change what tab you're looking at before / after clicking accept...

However, as soon as I clicked accept on a game-start, I press F5 regularly, to not miss a game that started. You can look at the table-symbol in the upper right corner to find out if you have a real-time-game going on without that table being opened.
