CSI MEMOIR 44 - ARRACOURT

While it can sometimes be extremely unfair (only slightly less so than the worst of the desert scenarios) - you DO get the feeling of being in a battle of armored vehicles... It has the distinction of being mentioned in the Strategy Guide as the quickest defeat suffered by the author... (2 turns).

Once again, Wiking44 was kind enough to play through the scenario with me.

Arracourt is one of the maps that can be over before it begins. Especially if the Allies get the Armor Assault card, then things can get bloody really quickly. But the blowout can go both ways - as an Assault Right plus a good follow-up can sometimes be almost as deadly if the Germans get it.

Round one of our fight was a bit unusual in that neither of us had particularly good cards for Arracourt. I had GENERAL ADVANCE and RECON IN FORCE which aren't bad, but they don't help much since your left flank as the Germans is completely useless.
It turned out Wiking also had poor cards, so we ended out slugging it out little by little. Even when Wiking finally picked up an ARMOR ASSAULT, it didn't do much, since he wasn't able to get 4 tanks into close assault.
Nothing much to say about this first round - other than it was close - 6-5. Ending with me using the BARRAGE I had kept the whole game like a coward...
Btw a little puzzle for the viewers: I had two options. Either a 2figure Infantry, or 1figure Armor, both could retreat. What are the odds on the two targets? (I picked the wrong one, but got lucky).
So for the second round as the Allies, I started with ARMOR ASSAULT and CLOSE ASSAULT. And since Wiking didn't get his units out of the way in the first move, an evil plan emerged from the depths of my Viking genes... Get up close and personal with a longship... or even better, a Sherman tank!
Yeah, not much to say for round two - Wiking never stood a chance and got wiped out in two turns, managing only to kill 1 of my units. 6-1.
At least he can say he managed to hold out as long as Alexis "Praxeo" Beuve on Arracourt.

Post battle we agreed that it would not be a bad map if transferred to a Breakthrough format - with greater distance between the two armies, and room to actually maneuver all the units around.

One of my least favorite scenarios, first round Americans start with a 6-card hand but had 3 Recon 1 cards so not a very good start.
Second round I had NO CHANCE to fight back with only a 4-card hand with just a probe on that side so was crushed

This map IMO should NOT be in Competition like Arena or Tournaments as it is way to easy to win with starting cards but like Magnus said convert this to Breakthrough it has potential
Maybe I'll make one up
