Ambush Set To Auto

Post by Wiking44 »

Is it only me but does waiting for your opponent to react to every close combat attack bring down the flow of the game?
if you have the actual ambush card then it will ask you if you want to use it so in a "Tournament' situation should every player default to auto pass?
It just seems to bring down the flow of the attack especially if you have to wait hours or the next day to resolve your attack.

Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way because of my ADD

Cheers

This is the main reason why I am not a fan of turn base (tournament) play.
should every player default to auto pass?
I think yes. But there is an issue when doing this.

Example: Player A making his last attack, resulting in player B having to retreat. Player A is now done with his turn, without drawing new card...Not knowing if his new card is the Ambush card. Thereby Preventing player, A from playing his newly (unknown to him) acquired Ambush card before player B executes his next attack.

It would work better if the Ambush auto-pass button was to reset itself as soon as that player draws the Ambush Card.
Sometimes I tell my opponent that I have the Ambush card, hoping he/she might decide to auto pass...helping the progression of the game...never works, they don't believe I have it. Might I suggest; When player does have Ambush, allowing him to choose auto-pass for his opponent. :D

If you set auto-pass the game will let you decide wether to ambush when you really do have ambush.
So no worries setting auto pass for that.

ah, Okay. I did not know that. Just to be clear; if I set auto-pass and I collect the Ambush card, the auto-pass button will reset itself (being on no pass)? If that is the case, then why do players not use the auto pass button? Think I have played four turn base games, my opponent never uses auto-pass, I thought I figured out why...I am lost once again. Why isn't it being used??? While playing on the Dow site, how many times, having known your opponent has the Ambush card stopped you from assaulting anyway? come ON!

I think many players do not have the auto pass on because:
a. They don’t know how that works
b. They thought the same as you
c. They do not want you to know for your current turn that they do or do not nhave ambush
d. something else I have not thought of :)

Let me just copy paste the text that is displayed if you click on the big "?" button right in the middle of the title bar before the Pass and AutoPass buttons that I would have expected everyone to read before clicking on these butons....
"Whenever a player is attacked in close combat, he might react to the attack if they have an Ambush card in hand.
In order to not reveal any private information about the cards in your hand, you will be prompted every time you get in close combat even if you don't have that card in hand by default. You can change that by clicking the auto-pass button or in the settings available clicking on the gears next to your names."

So I would have expected that "a. They don’t know how that works" was off the table by then....

I wouldn't want you to take this the wrong way, But...
you sound like a very, very toxic player :|

I celebrate the clean competition above all. I have no issue with my opponent being slow as hell, I want each and everyone to bring to bear all his best A-game.

I despise snatching away a clean win by foul play.
Sportmanship above all.

You and I, seem to be quite on opposite ends on quite a few debates. You seem to treat it all like a popcorn snack "gimme gimme".
I enjoy more the slowfood served when time is ready.

As long as your anxiety-driven suggestions don't get implemented... all fine by me :D

Very well could be, here in the Forums.
I despise snatching away a clean win by foul play.
You and me both.
Sportmanship above all.
Good Sportsmanship is not about them, it's about me'.

I actually didn't like playing on here the first couple games because it infuriated me when it always paused before I did a close combat. Now I can see why people might not want to auto-pass, as if you do it reveals that you don't have an Ambush card in your hand, but personally I tend to prefer to turn on Auto-pass, especially turn-based games outside of tounaments (I might not in a tournament), just to keep the game flowing better.

it reveals that you don't have an Ambush card in your hand
Unless it is a Critical turn, nobody really cares whether opponent has ambush or not. If many cards have already been played, you will know if your opponent has Ambush. Keeping yourself from using auto pass is not going to fool anybody. Although, having auto-pas on could defiantly fool opponent into thinking you "don't" have Ambush, when you really do.

Playing on DoW players always knew when opponent had ambush...It never really changed anything. Ambush happens, you should not be surprised when it happens. Play the game knowing Ambush is out there...It is never a good idea running a one figure unit out in the open, while making an assault that ends in Malee...unless you are the one who holds the ambush card!
