Good Turn Based Game?

Post by xelda »

Any suggestions for a 2 player game that's good for turn-based? Most games I play are pretty quick, and doesn't make sense to play turn-based. Looking to play with a friend who wants turn-based rather than real-time.

Castles of Burgundy or Lost Ruins of Arnak are both good for turn based, as you can take your time thinking through your next move. Also good are all flip&writes, as it is easy to just jump into a game after a break.

Doesn't look like there is a good guideline for this and it is totally subject to the developers' personal taste.

2 player turn based? Dungeon Twister for sure! Phenomenal game, and turn based means you can actually give in to your analysis paralysis and keep on thinking until you find that best move :).

IMO there are only a handful of games that don't work particularly well turn-based.
So what you're actually asking here is, what games do you like...

My suggestion would be to play just 1 of each game. Mentally it's much easier to keep track. And play with people of your own ability.
Get used to taking notes and reading the log if you want to check on the latest moves.

The longer, more complicated games might suit turn-based more because of various timing elements. No down-time, time to play the whole game, time to think, time to learn, etc.
