Invited a friend, he did not join, I had to play a random player

I wanted to play an April Fools joke and invited a friend to three games of a game he does not like. He declined or did not enter...but next day I was in a all three games and had to play a random player. What happend? Shouldn't the game just end if the friend does not join?

You must use the table filters to allow only your friends to join.
If not, the table is opened for everyone. Since your friend declined the invitation, the place was free and a random player joined.
