I played a game and the person called me goofy. I think this is offensive. What to you think?
Is "goofy" reportable.

Re: Is "goofy" reportable.
It's debatable, but anything is reportable.
Was the word addressed to you or to a situation in the game?
I personally usually avoid any conversation with the people I play, and use the chat as a psychological self-boosting mechanism.
For instance, I usually use "s*upid luck", related to my luck, opposed to the luck the adversary has. For some reason, I feel that my luck will change if I say that.
IMO, this shouldn't be so offensive or reportable, but some people feel offended just by seeing negative cathartic words, unrelated to them or to anyone else.
In your case, if you were called "g*ofy" and felt offended, report the person and (s)he could be moderated.
But I don't see the word really that offensive; I presume the context of usage should also be considered.

Same as for instance, if a non-Canadian person reported someone for using a partially illegal substance in their username, they might also get moderated.
I suppose it's how you toss the coin.

It's an insult, but no worse than being called Dinkie Cantalope.

I dont know... I guess we are not from the same generation, so we probably have a different point of view, but...Dinkie Cantalope wrote: ↑26 April 2023, 23:27 I played a game and the person called me goofy. I think this is offensive. What to you think?
The word "goofy" is OFFENDING to you?
Why caring about what a pur stranger may say or think of you, seriously?
It's not supposed to even bother you one bit! (even less be offensed by that)
My personal advice would be, if someone says something that makes you feel belittle, the best thing to do is to politely but firmly require a MINIMUM OF RESPECT from this person.
Being able to: 1-Defend yourself; 2-Let the other people know what are your limits; are the most usefull tools you can have in life.
Take care!

Rage quitting in Ticket to Ride is not cool, Joelle. Even if somebody did intentionally block you in the end, it is still bad sportsmanship.Joëlle_ wrote: ↑28 April 2023, 02:28I dont know... Re: Is "goofy" reportable.
in my world, goofy is a gentle word I use to describe my different but loveable friends. it is a word I use to describe odd behaviors that aren’t really bad. so I wouldn’t report that.
Re: Is "goofy" reportable.
Goofy in a skating / surfing world just means left dominant ie you lead with your left foot. Equivalent to the boxing term South Paw. etc. Goofy applied in a wider sense can mean similarly unusual/unpredictable. The car is running goofy etc. Or "he bats goofy" just means "he has odd technique" - it can be a positive depending on if the goofy technique baffles opponents but still gets results. Occasionally goofy means buck toothed in homage to the Disney character, but unless you were video chatting somehow I can't see how that would apply here.
Given the various uses I would assume goofy in and of itself is not offensive. Context is everything. Everyone needs to behave like grown ups and be sensible. If someone was baiting you repeatedly and clearly trying to infer you are a bit horse-mouthed and in need of some orthodontic intervention, fine report it. If it's a comment that you play unpredictably and which could therefore be well intentioned then choose to take it that (positive) way.
Life goes better when people assume the best of people and not the worst. If someone chooses to be offended by something that wasn't clearly meant as an insult that is on them. The world can't be expected to tip-toe around in case someone gets offended by non-offensive things. We'd quickly not be able to meaningfully converse at all. Sadly too many people these days seem to have a default presumption of malice and intent to offend them that means they choose to see things as a slur where the reality was otherwise. It must be a depressing way to go about life.
Without seeing the chat log we can't really comment I guess, but OP the fact you're posting here to ask advice suggests to me that you probably know it's not really worth reporting. Otherwise you'd have done it already. A different disney character might therefore suggest you Let it Go.

Re: Is "goofy" reportable.
This is getting ridiculous. Goofy is offensice lol.
I really Dont get this offensive culture. If i were in charge there would be no foul language moderation. Other people can say whatever they want, but YOU choose to be offended. They Dont make the choice for you. YOU decide when to be offended and when not. Wwhy they should be punished for something YOU did. Where did stick and stone gone?
With more and more moderation we get each generation weaker and weaker. Its ridiculous..
The fact that you need to ASK if its reportable is hilarious...

Re: Is "goofy" reportable.
I agree, also to get offended for a word like "goofy" at the point to try to get someone punished for it is ridicolous. In here I've seen things that made me laugh my *, like people whining because "gg" after a won game sounded like mockery... I swear, you guys really need to try the real toxic environments, where "ez moron" is the standard post game comment. I mean, that's not good either, in fact it often ruins the fun making people angry for no reason, but whining after the slightest thing is no better.
