Number of tiles per color?

Post by skipant5 »

Are there 24 tiles per color in the BGA adaptation? Does the number of tiles depend on the number of people playing?

The game description says 20 and I don't think mentions the number of players, but, from recent 2pp games it appears to be 24...
For example, at the end of this game, the total number of blue tiles out between the board and floor line is 24.

Curious and trying to understand the game better!

Not sure where you're getting 24 from in that screenshot. I only see 11, assuming you mean the dark blue - and it doesn't look like anyone has just placed one of those (and therefore just discarded 1-4 tiles) either.

Hold on though - the player on top will have needed a total of 15 at various stages to get the blues on all rows, and likely the player on the bottom would have needed 6. Together with the 3 you can see on the top player's floor line, that makes 24 - is that what you're getting at?

If so, you're overlooking that those 15 that the player on top had don't have to be 15 different, unique, tiles. When they place the blue on line 5, for example, the other 4 get discarded and can come out of the bag again on a later round.

So I see nothing here that's inconsistent with having only 20 tiles of each colour.

In a 2-player game the 5x20=100 tiles are used up after exactly the fifth round. If a game has six or more rounds (which is rare since the leading player wants to end the game) then the played tiles that landed in the bag are shuffled and reused - exactly as robinzig described.

So your screenshot only proves that the game had more than 5 rounds - which it did.
