Moderation on lost games

Post by pauljh »

Hi All,
To be clear I am NOT discussing a moderation on this forum, but from 'rough' research it appears its bias towards the loser (or losers). I wonder how many people report "inappropriate" behavior when they lose a game compared to when they win a game? even when the language certainly isn't abusive or inappropriate compared to any sane definition of language.

50/50 i get a 10 day ban....

Your question seems to have nothing to do with moderation, IMO, so I don't understand why you're talking about it. oO

You can give a public red thumb to anyone you played with.
Ofc, people get mad more often when they lose and may decide to red thumb a player because they are not in a good mood anymore after losing.

But don't focus too much on red thumbs (even public ones). It won't affect your karma, unless more than one player gives you a rt.
So if only one player gets mad at you, you won't lose any karma.

You don't have a ban at all. I'm confused by this post. BGA actually makes it extremely difficult to report bad behavior. It has be *bad* to even reach the point of a moderator looking. Too many 10's of thousands (millions?) of registered players for them to care about minor issues.

You have to actively say mean things in the chat or something similar to be banned.

What happened? Your post is too vague

On the contrary it’s really easy to get a moderation if you just say something that the other person takes offense for. I once got moderated for calling someone a pumpkin LOL, didn’t think that was an insult but they took it as one. But it’s a simple loss of karma that you can easily regain. Now to actually be banned that does take a lot and you have to actually be extreme.

I think the OP is just wondering if the loser of a game is more likely to report bad behavior than the winner. My gut instinct is yes, but only the moderators would be able to tell us that for sure and I don't think they will (they're pretty busy).

I have reported a player after winning a game. Who knows, maybe players who are losing are more likely to make insulting comments in chat out of anger?

Luckily, I don't see the need to report many players.

Yeah, keep in mind that red thumbs are handled automatically, but reports need to be reviewed by a moderator. (I'm 97% sure of that.)

To get the moderation to be efficient, I hope that players will only use the report button for serious cases (e.g. racism, harassment, ...), not because they were once called "idiot"

Unfortunately, it is used for far milder things than than even "idiot," not that anyone should be calling someone idiot.

Hope dies but reports and moderations shall live forever!

Reporting someone for writing "bg" (after you write "gg") would be a serious case, in your opinion?
