Pinochle is now in beta!

Post by ufm »

Pinochle is now in beta!

Pinochle is a trick-taking game for 2 to 4 players. Players score points by melding cards in hand and playing tricks.
This implementation supports single deck Pinochle (3-player and 4-player), double deck Pinochle (4-player), two-handed Pinochle and Bezique (2-player).

I guess there are different versions of the points system. I learned these rules: https://www.britannica.com/topic/pinochle

I had not heard of 4 kitty cards in partners either or extra meld points for a run with one extra extra K or Q

Not sure if the url listed scoring/no passing and no kiddy options are possible?

Thx

There are many variants in Pinochle.
As I can't implement all of them, I implemented only the most common variants (≠ the oldest rules) to avoid confusion and reduce matchmaking splits.

I love pinochle! It's one of our absolute favorite games and I was SO excited to see a Beta version on BGA.

But

My wife and I tried it and were so confused. The method we play is 4 players on opposite teams. Bid clockwise until there's a bid winner who declares trump suit and then the partner passes 3 cards to the winner, the winner passes 3 cards back, and then all players reveal meld. Is the method currently implemented really the "most common?" How is "most common" even known?

Thanks for implementing

You can enable custom teammate setting and card passing only in 4-player friendly mode games.
Also, 2-player Pinochle is a completely different game from 3/4-player Pinochle.

Yeah, we noticed how very different 2 player was haha.

Why restrict card passing to friendly games?

Colluding players dominate the passing games, but BGA doesn't have any effective way to regulate such acts.
Also, the default mode is double deck pinochle where the card passing is not that common compared to single deck pinochle.
