Changing gears

Exactly how does one change gears. From first gear in round 2 I tried clicking on second gear but nothing is happening.

I believe the number of cards you choose to play is the gear you are asking to be in e.g. if you play 3 cards then you want the car to be in 3rd gear

This is correct. Also, the tutorial covers questions like this and doesn't take that long to go through.
