Outdoor areas says that pens adjacent to the icon have +2 size. There is no longer an icon in your image (you covered it up). So now those 3 pens are adjacent to a kiosk not an outdoor area. In thematic land, if there is a big open area that multiple animal enclosures share and let the animals move around between them, you cannot build a kiosk for zoo guests in the middle of that outdoor area and still let the animals roam freely through that extra space.
That explanation makes sense.
I thought I was being smart by placing a kiosk there.
I think it should be disallowed to place one there, because (thematically) the animals of the existing enclosures need that space.
I asked a play tester who knows Matthias to confirm.
As a professional developer, this is the type of edge case I love finding and bringing up. But given the number of interactions and exact combination of features needed to be in play followed by a player choice to reach this exact state... I would be surprised if this wasn't the first actual instance of this event occuring.
That particular zoo map is on the high power side and that sponsor card sets it off in an even more massive way. It is almost always a winning combination. Unless getting free placements, players with that combo tend to just spam more pens and end the game extremely rapidly, never considering covering that spot. Nothing forbids it. It certainly isn't a good idea unless you have already filled all the adjacent pens (in which case, go for it). But few people will realize the ramifications of covering it before they do it and experience it firsthand. And that is the very rare instance of hitting the conditions of considering filling it instead of just placing elsewhere for other placement bonuses.
