Caverna game replays don't work?

When I start playing a game, I like to check out game replays to see how people play, but most replays for Caverna give an error like "Unexpected error: Unfortunately the replay for this game has been lost (empty archive file) (reference: MU 23/11 22:17:14)".

Is it expected that replays aren't available for a lot of Caverna games or is there some kind of transient issue?

Some replays do load (2 and 3 player games), but all of the 4-player arena matches I looked at failed to load with the same error.

It's a transient issue, not linked to caverna

Where's the difference? Arena mode = tournament, so, 4p games can't be replayed, reason unknown so far. But maybe I misunderstand you !? A "detail": you write "4p and up", and, that I didn't know => I thought tournament games are 3p or 4p...

Arena and tournaments are two different things. Arena is administer automatically with fixed settings for a season (unless they play Calvinball and change mid-season as happens sometimes). Tournaments are configured by players and each tournament could have completely different settings, so conceivably someone could set up a tournament with 5 players per game.

Thanks for pointing out this issue. I've spent some time today looking into it, and I've pushed a fix for future replays.

Some existing replays may get regenerated, but many will remain broken, and I can't get them back, I'm sorry about this!
