Players kicking in the tournament allowed?

Post by Amstelinchen »

Dear tournament organizers, is it allowed to kick the opponent in a running game if the time limit is exceeded? In the Golden Trophy Tichu tournament, my opponent announced a grand tichu, which I destroyed with a countercall. My partner was then kicked by the opponent, ending the game:

I don't consider this to be fair play and I wonder how this will be judged. Perhaps someone can answer this for me? I assume that my partner and I would have won this game. Even if another round would have been necessary afterwards.

Best greetings,

Amstelinchen

Yes: That's a loss on time.

BGA allows people to kick people out of time in tournaments, but also only allows 30 days as the maximum game-time for any tournament game. In games like Tichu where players may go into the red on time, players can only coordinate between themselves to agree not to kick people out - so people can only rely on the good sportsmanship of their opponents, or making sure they use the game chat to reiterate they're still playing when out of time. Tournament organisers are generally just random BGA users who can't change a single tournament setting once at least 1 person signs up, so can't actually enforce any rules.

In your game, I imagine the player that was kicked out will be deemed the loser, and all the other players will be deemed winners - as usually happens on BGA

This was a game between 2 teams - not just a game between between 4 independent players - so I had thought Amstelinchen
would also be considered a loser, but I now see the table does say "All other players will be considered winners." .
