Why does Wingspan keep saying I didn't finish a game and penalize me when I did finish?

You may get the notification after finishing some other game. In your profile you can see you were expelled in two recent games:

As Jellby says, the message is sometimes delayed until either you complete a different game (would you want it to pop up in the middle of a game?) or the next time you are online. I've seen it appear the next day.

If you think about it, this makes sense. If you were expelled for disconnecting and/or not being at your computer, it wouldn't make sense to send the message immediately because you presumably aren't connected to receive it.

I’ve gotten several bug reports about this, in the last few weeks and never before. I don’t see anything that indicates the issue is related to a bug within the Wingspan implementation. Most likely it is a site wide issue that would affect other games under similar circumstances

Looking at the replays for the two most recent ones, it looks like the OP and at least one other player played on beyond the point where the OP was skipped due to running out of time. People don't seem to realise that if you are expelled due to running out of time, it doesn't matter if you continue to play after this point, that counts as a game not finished (in games I play, this usually results in everyone else quitting too and the game ends there, but only the person who was skipped/ran out of time is penalised).

The OP also seems to mostly play Wingspan, which is why they're saying it's an issue with Wingspan, but it's not (this may explain those raising it as bugs against Wingspan as well). The behaviour would be the same in other games site-wide, but it's not a problem, just the way things work.
